The conch piercing is a striking yet sophisticated choice in the world of ear piercings. Placed in the center of the auricle, this piercing instantly adds depth and balance to the ear. A subtle stud creates a calm and elegant look, while a ring makes a powerful statement.
At All Perfectly Pierced in Rhoon, near Rotterdam, conch piercings are all about attention to detail and precision. Our GGD-certified studio works exclusively with high-quality materials like implant-grade titanium and 14k or 18k gold. We consider not only technique but also your ear , style , and preferences . This creates a conch piercing that's perfect, both anatomically and aesthetically.
In this blog post, you'll find everything you need to know about conch piercings, from pain and healing to care, cost, and styling.
A conch piercing is placed in the cartilage of the auricle, centrally located in the ear. Unlike a helix piercing, the conch lies more inward, giving the jewelry a distinct focal point within your ear styling.
Because the conch pierces through strong cartilage, this piercing requires a little more attention during the healing process. On the other hand, the conch is exceptionally versatile. A small stud maintains a subtle look, while a ring instantly adds character to the ear.
Not every ear is automatically suitable for a conch piercing. The shape and depth of the auricle are decisive factors. That's why our piercers always carefully assess your anatomy before proceeding.
There are several variations of the conch piercing. The one that suits you best depends on your ear shape and the look you're aiming for.
Every ear shape is different, making every conch piercing unique . Our piercers are happy to help you decide what best suits your ear and style. This way, you can be sure your conch is not only beautifully pierced but also truly suits you. Read here how we work at All Perfectly Pierced.
The inner conch is placed in the deeper, central part of the auricle. This style is often paired with a stud and creates a calm, balanced look.
Timeless and refined. Ideal if you prefer a minimalist look or want to combine the conch with other piercings.
A ring in the conch gives a powerful look. This is often done until the piercing has fully settled, as a ring allows for more movement during healing.
A conch piercing is always done with a sterile needle and never with a piercing gun. Cartilage requires a controlled and professional approach.
At All Perfectly Pierced, we take our time to ensure careful placement. We work exclusively with safe materials suitable for new piercings and ensure you know exactly what to expect beforehand. Peace of mind and trust are paramount. Read more about our piercing process here.
The pain experienced with a conch piercing varies from person to person. It's usually described as a short, firm pressure or a sharp prick. Because the conch pierces through firmer cartilage, it can feel slightly more intense than, for example, an earlobe piercing or a helix.
The moment itself, however, passes quickly. Most people mainly experience some tenderness or warmth in the days afterward. With proper care, this usually subsides quickly.
The cost of a conch piercing depends on the jewelry you choose. At All Perfectly Pierced, the cost is €40 , excluding a sterile labret ( €12.50) and the jewelry you choose.
Titanium jewelry starts at €20 . This safe, hypoallergenic jewelry is ideal for kick-starting your healing process.
Gold jewelry starts from €50 each and instantly gives your piercing a luxurious look.
For those looking for something unique, we also have exclusive designs featuring diamonds and gemstones. These jewelry pieces can range in price from a few hundred euros to over €3,000 .
Our collection includes both minimalist studs and elegant rings with sparkling stones. This way, you decide how much you want to invest in your new piercing. Keep in mind that you'll often switch to a shorter barbell or ring later in the healing process. The final cost, therefore, depends on your personal style and jewelry choice.

Healing from a conch piercing is gradual and requires patience. On average, the healing process takes between 3 and 9 months. In some cases, it can take up to 12 months, depending on your body and lifestyle.
Daily cleaning with saline solution is essential for smooth healing. Touch the piercing as little as possible and only with clean hands. Avoid pressure on the ear, especially while sleeping. Sleeping on the piercing can slow healing and cause irritation.
Swelling and slight tenderness in the first few weeks are normal. Therefore, we always start with a slightly longer post to allow the ear enough room to heal. You can read more about this in our blog post about the healing process of piercings.
While the conch piercing is healing, it can affect your daily habits. Sleeping on your side, wearing earplugs, or headphones can be uncomfortable at first. Extra protection may also be necessary in professions where hygiene is important, such as healthcare or hospitality.
It's also good to know that not every ear is suitable for a conch piercing. If in doubt, it's always wise to seek advice from an experienced piercer first.
The conch piercing is often the focal point of an ear styling . Its central placement makes it a beautiful addition to piercings like a helix, tragus, or flat piercing.
A stud keeps the look understated and refined, while a ring adds character. At All Perfectly Pierced, we're happy to help you find a style that suits your facial shape and personal taste. Also, check out our styling options for more inspiration.
A successful piercing starts with proper preparation. Always choose a professional piercing studio that adheres to strict hygiene standards. A clean environment, experienced piercers, and clear communication are essential. Take the time to read reviews and feel free to ask about the piercer's certifications or licenses—after all, it's your body. Get to know All Perfectly Pierced better here.
The jewelry you start with also plays a significant role in the healing process. Hypoallergenic materials like titanium or real gold (14 or 18 karat) are ideal for preventing irritation. A straight barbell is often chosen for conch piercings, as this provides sufficient space for any swelling in the first few weeks. Finally, avoid blood thinners like alcohol or aspirin before your appointment. These can increase the risk of bleeding and negatively impact recovery.
During the first few weeks of your conch piercing healing, some swelling may occur. Therefore, always start with a longer barbell to accommodate this swelling. On average, the swelling subsides within 6-8 weeks, making this the ideal time to have the piercing shortened, also known as " downsizing ." The piercing will first be assessed, and if there's enough room, the conch piercing will be carefully replaced with a well-fitting piece of jewelry.
Good to know! You can, of course, keep the jewelry you chose; only the bar will be replaced.
So make it easier for yourself and your new piercing and book a check-up/downsizing appointment.
Most conch piercings heal without problems, but in some cases complications may occur.
Infection is more common with cartilage piercings like the conch, mainly because blood flow is poor there. This makes it harder for the body to fight bacteria in that area. Symptoms of an infection include redness, warmth, swelling, pain, and sometimes pus. In rare cases, an infection can become more serious and require medical intervention .
Do you see a red, bumpy lump around your piercing? Then you likely have a piercing bump. These are often caused by friction, sleeping on the piercing, using the wrong materials, or inadequate aftercare. Fortunately, they're usually temporary and disappear on their own with proper care. Read our blog about piercing bumps for more information.
Are you experiencing itching, redness, or even blisters around your piercing? It could be an allergic reaction, usually caused by jewelry containing nickel. That's why at All Perfectly Pierced, we work exclusively with high-quality, nickel-free materials like titanium and 14k or 18k gold—it's safer!
Some people are more prone to scarring than others. Genetics can cause scar tissue to thicken. This is rare, but it's worth mentioning. Read more about keloids in piercings in our blog.
A conch piercing takes a little longer to fully heal. Most people can expect a healing time of 3 to 9 months, but in some cases, it can take up to 12 months. Swelling in the first few weeks is normal, so we always insert a slightly longer piece of jewelry in the initial stages to give the piercing enough room to heal smoothly.
These are the five most frequently asked questions about helix piercings at All Perfectly Pierced. Do you have general questions about piercings? Feel free to check out our FAQ page for more answers.
A conch piercing takes an average of 3 to 9 months to fully heal. The outside may seem calm for a while, but the inside of the canal needs more time to heal completely. Patience and proper aftercare are therefore essential.
It's best not to sleep on the side of your conch piercing while it's healing. Pressure and friction can cause irritation and slow healing. Consider using a special pillow or travel pillow with a hole in the center to keep your ear clear.
If you experience symptoms such as redness, swelling, throbbing pain, or pus, it's wise to contact an experienced piercer or your doctor immediately. Don't try to remove the jewelry yourself, as this can worsen the infection.
Don't change your jewelry until your piercing is fully healed, usually after 3 to 9 months. Changing it too early can cause irritation, scarring, or even re-infection. If in doubt, consult a professional.
A ring is a stylish choice, but the angle of the ring can make the piercing more sensitive. Therefore, wait at least six months and ensure your piercing has completely calmed down before switching. It's best to have your piercer change it the first time.
