The Process of Piercing

Het Proces van Piercen

Piercing procedure

There are different ways to get a piercing. First, the skin will of course be cleaned and you will be asked what your wishes are and what a good placement is. A dot will be put in which you can look at and approve. Be sure of the placement or ask if the dot can be higher or lower or whatever you prefer. A dot is easy to move, the new piercing is not ;). Do not be hesitant about this. It is of course possible that a different placement is discouraged by the piercer and this will also be explained why.

Check in advance if a piercing shop has undergone a valid GGD inspection. Find the shop here: https://www.veiligtatoeerenenpiercen.nl/vind-hier-je-studio

Of course, make sure the piercer wears gloves and works as sterile as possible. Ask questions in between if you want to know something, a professional piercer will be happy to answer them! For example, are you very nervous or do you faint easily? Let your piercer know so he can reassure you. You can also indicate that you do not want to see a needle or want the piercer to count down, or not ;)

Shooting (WE DON'T DO IT!)

Earring piercing is still offered in many places, such as the jeweler on the corner. Many piercers advise against earring piercing.

The reason for this is that the "shooting gun" cannot be cleaned properly and is therefore not hygienic and safe. In addition, the "needle" (the earring itself) is much blunt when compared to the needle used for piercing, which causes more damage than necessary. Piercers also have much more experience with piercing and you are assured of a better placement of your new earring/piercing.

Piercing with clamp (We don't do that)

When piercing with a clamp, a sterile needle, a sterile clamp and of course a sterile piece of jewelry are used. After approval of the placement (the dot), a clamp is placed on your earlobe and the puncture will take place soon after. The needle has made the hole and will remain in your ear/nose/skin (or cannula - a plastic tube) when the clamp is removed. After this, the jewelry will be placed directly in it. Just a ball or crystal on it, a little cleaning and ready!

Freehand Piercing

Freehand piercing uses only a sterile needle and of course a sterile piece of jewelry. The piercer's hands work as a kind of replacement for the clamp. Every piercer has his own preference of working.

After approval of the placement (the dot) your ear/skin will be grabbed and the prick will follow soon after. The needle has made the hole and will remain (or cannula - a plastic tube) after which the jewelry will be placed directly in. Just add a piece of jewelry, a little cleaning and done!
